Tour de Col de la Colombière

125km | 2500m+

An awesome route taking you further and higher… You’ll start with a gentle warm up to climb to Les Gets before descending down through the gorge to the valley floor at Taninges. Early in the morning this can be chilly.

The short back road climb to Chatillon will warm you before a fast flowing descent to the town of Cluses. Grab a quick coffee here as the 17km climb of Colombiere comes next. You travel right from the valley floor at 500m to the top at almost 1700m.

The Colombiere itself is in two parts with a respite at the village of Reposoir half way up. Refill water (theres a trough on the right in front of a chalet before you enter the village) or grab a coke if needed before the road starts gradually ramping towards the last few km. They come in at 9%, 10% and 11% respectively so keep something in the tank! For extra steep climbing tackle the Col de Romme from Cluses and descend to Reposoir before continuing up to Colombiere as the Tour did in 2018.

From the top you are rewarded by great views towards Annecy and a 30km descent to bring us back to the valley floor. A flat valley section follows to bring us back towards Morzine with a gentle climb to Chatillon and then the 12km climb back up to Les Gets just to finish off the legs.

Chatillon also has a really good bakery for emergency supplies before the last climb home, its tucked off from the roundabout on the the road towards Les Carroz.
