Col de Joux Verte

A really awesome climb with a little bit of everything… it starts just along the road in Montriond, with the ‘official’ segment starting right down by the roundabout. A Cat 1 climb which gains 900m over 14km and takes you from the valley floor, past lakes, meadows, the Goat Village (all will be revealed!) and forests topping out about the tree line with awesome views in all directions. Theres an extra km up to Avoriaz for those who want a little more.

Theres two main steep sections, one partway up just before the the Goat Village where you will see the road wind high above you. Keep going as theres a water trough there, though you’ll have to fight the goats for it, and the gradient eases right off after. Save a little energy as it ramps up again for the the last couple kms.

At the Col turn left to carry on up to Avoriaz (another km), reward yourself that the great and friendly cafe, or turn right to descend via the main Morzine Avoriaz road with its 19 flowing hairpins back to Morzine. Then turn around and repeat in the other direction!
